The Maharaja – Avery Brewing Company

 Are you looking for a big, bold Imperial IPA? Yes, well, you are not alone. So am I… almost always. It’s yet another Imperial IPA review. What can I say, it’s my current favorite style of beer. So I’m slowly making my way through a bunch of them. This one is by Avery Brewing from Boulder, CO and it’s part of their Dictator Series of brews.

The Dictator Series represent “an exploration of beer flavor through the medium of traditional ingredients.” The three Dictators in this series are the Kaiser (Imperial Octoberfest Lager), the Czar (Imperial Stout), and today we look at the Maharaja (Imperial IPA). Continue reading

Stone – 15th Anniversary Escondidian Imperial Black IPA

So I picked this one up on the first day of release, at my favorite secret spot on August 15th, but kept it in the fridge until tonight. I wanted to take my time with this one, as I knew it was going to need special attention. I’m glad I did, because this beer definitely deserves it. Now, this is the very first black IPA I’ve ever tried, so my review is totally off the cuff and like all my reviews should be taken for face value. Continue reading

Green Flash – Imperial IPA

For my first post I thought I should probably come up with a scale of some sort. So I gave it very little thought and decided that I’ll score on a scale of 1 to 5 caps giving my overall opinion. There are other sites that will break down each characteristic of the beer: Color, Nose, Taste, and Mouthfeel. I might try to mention each of those in my review, but I’m not qualified to score those individually, and really those things are so subjective. I know what I like and what I don’t.
