RJ Rockers – Black Perle – Spartanburg, South Carolina
Dark IPA – 9.5% ABV

The first brew in the new “Ales From The Dark Side” series, Black Perle is 90-minute, octo-hopped, dark IPA that weighs in at 9.5% abv and named for the German bittering hops, Perle, that were added during the beers unusually long 90-minute boil.

The Review

Call me Captain Jack Sparrow. Nutty, hints of coffee very smooth. RRRRRR!

So let me start off by saying that if I ever come to your place and find an unopened bottle of Firestone Walker Double Jack in your possession I will force you to open it and share it with me. And I’m not a violent person, but I might even knock a pregnant woman out of the way to get this beer. So don’t make your pregnant wife go beer shopping for you, I’m just sayin’.

You see, this one kicked Pliny The Elder off the top of my IPA list. Yeah, I know, I usually don’t show my cards until much further down the page when I reveal my bottle cap rating in my beer reviews. But, WOW! I don’t know why I waited so long to try this one. Continue reading
