Hollingshead – A craft beer paradise

I’ve heard great things about this place for years. So when I found out from my doctor that I can drink beer again, I left the doctor’s office and went across the street to Hollingshead. I figured this was a great excuse to finally check it out.

(located across the street from St. Joseph’s Hospital)

For those of you who have not been here before let me tell you that you are missing out one of the best craft beer stores in Orange County. The beer selection is huge, the staff is friendly, and the deli food is excellent.
They have 22 taps, all craft beer, and will let you taste anything. Since I have been off beer for a while I tried a few of the IPAs they have on tap. I settled on a brew from Hangar24 called “Local Fields Essence'”.  It’s a Double India Pale Ale brewed with blood oranges, naval oranges, and grapefruit.
imageIt pours a red copper color with a half-inch head. As you can guess from the ingredients it has a big citrus nose. It’s a refreshing DIPA and a great summer beer. I even bought a couple of bottles to take home with me and share with my beer soaked buddies. If you have a chance to try this don’t pass it up. I even talked another customer into a pint while I was enjoying mine.
4 caps from me.

Since I will have several weeks of follow-up visits to the doctor I plan on making Hollingshead a regular post-doc stop.
Cheers to craft beer!

  1. Hi Erik! As a longtime Hollingshead fan, I’m glad you could make it out to our local watering hole 🙂 Definitely have a conversation (if you haven’t already haha) with the “Mayor” of Hollingshead, Harry!

  2. Thanks Monica, I’ll look for the “Mayor” the next time I stop by Hollingshead. You are very lucky to have that place as your local watering hole. So much great beer there. I’m looking forward to my next doctors appointment. Cheers!
