Green Flash – Imperial IPA

For my first post I thought I should probably come up with a scale of some sort. So I gave it very little thought and decided that I’ll score on a scale of 1 to 5 caps giving my overall opinion. There are other sites that will break down each characteristic of the beer: Color, Nose, Taste, and Mouthfeel. I might try to mention each of those in my review, but I’m not qualified to score those individually, and really those things are so subjective. I know what I like and what I don’t. As with all opinions feel free to taste for yourself and agree or disagree with me. Now let’s get to it…

The beer

Green Flash Brewing Co.
Fine Hand-Crafted Ales
San Diego County, USA

[beer id=4862]

The venue

Out in my backyard on a typical southern California summer evening overlooking the garden. After dinner I poured this 22 ounce IPA into two pint glasses and headed out back double-fisted to enjoy the sunset.

The review

This is a hoptastic IIPA and not for the faint of heart. (Yeah, I know hoptastic isn’t really a word.) It comes in at a hefty 9.4% ABV, so if your favorite beer is Corona then stay far away from this one. It’s got a great copper color in the glass and keeps a decent head on it’s shoulders. Lots of crisp pine notes in the nose. Like it says on the bottle, “it’s all about the hops”, and if you like a hoppy beer then that’s a good thing. Citrusy and piney taste with a nice bitterness to it. It had good carbonation and a smooth finish. I’d definitely buy it again. I give it a solid 4 caps.
Cheers,
Erik
