Beer Soaked readers should know by now that our favorite Orange County craft beer festival is approaching. That’s right, it’s almost time for the annualOC Brew Ha Haon Saturday, September 7th, 2013.
Did you know that they are brewing a special collaboration beer for the event? We were invited to brew day for the OC Brew Ha Ha ‘HOP MONSTER’, and here’s the story…
Three local Orange County brewmasters; Aaron Barkenhagen of Bootleggers Brewery, Evan Weinberg of Cismontane Brewing Company, and Jerrod Larsen of Tustin Brewing Company, all came together to brew a commemorative beer for the OC BrewHaHa festival. They sat down over some beers and after taking a look at the graphic novel themed artwork for the 2013 BrewHaHa they decided on a massively “hopped up” Red Ale that would consist of Citra, Nelson, and Galaxy hops. “It was a no brainer. It had to be a hoppy red. I mean, just look at the artwork.” – Aaron Continue reading →
Yes, I am actually posting this in a somewhat timely manner. Not 3 months later as with the Brew Ha Ha! Gotta love it. So without further adieu, here is my list from the Brew Ho Ho (from what I can remember):
Haven Brewery – Hell Ryed
Bootlegger’s – Holiday
Old Orange Brewery – Old Dummy
Hangar 24 – Warmer
Stone – Vertical Epic 12.12.12 and IPA
Rogue – Dead Guys
Ritual – Hellion
Epic – Red Ale
Ballast Point – Sculpin
Maui – IPA
Never had Hellion before but it was damn good. Keep a look out for it!
All in all a good day with my buddy Owen and we also met up with the Beer Soaked crew. Always a good time!!!
I happened to live in Orange and stumbled into Hollingshead with my good friend Christina who works for Duvel, Ommegang, Maredsous, etc for a nice tall mug of Pliny from Russian River. Just give them a holler and you just might get lucky and get a mug. This is a great place, just don’t tell them you are a Bears fan!
And just recently, again in Orange went to The Bruery Provisions and tried the Dogfish Head Hell Hound on my Ale
I got some tasty beer for Christmas and I’ll try to report on that in the not too distant future but more than likely it will be some time in late January 2013. I will say there is some Black Tuesday 2012 and some Bootlegger’s Knuckle Sandwich. Until then!
Every now and then I like to pair my craft beer with music. I know most folks are pairing beer with food, and that’s fantastic. But I’m not a certified cicerone yet, so I will stick to music for now. I’m a fan of redheads… and red IPAs too. So for this pairing, I suggest Hop Head Red, The Girl U Want!
Resinous hop characteristics emerge from an enormous hopping with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo overtaking the rich caramel malt base. To add luscious hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry-hop the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Welcome to the world of Red IPA.
