Beer, a Burg and perhaps a Mustache

What’s that? Another post from Stew in less than 6 months?!? How can this be? We’ll it’s a new year and being timely is on the agenda! So here goes: my GF and I recently went to the Steam Haus Gastro Pub in Corona last weekend for a late lunch. It was kinda slow but the service, beer and food was great despite what Yelp reviewers had to say.

The list goes from right to left as noted above…

What can I say about the Delirium that hasn’t already been said. It’s good, it’s Belgian so there you have it. The Inland Empire Brewing Company Victoria is an American Strong Ale that comes in at a whopping 11%. Very citrusy, very hoppy and very strong, what can I say, it was great! Next up was the Big Daddy IPA from Speakeasy. A good west coast IPA that wasn’t too strong, in at 6.5%. And last but not least in the flight was the Goose Island Mild Winter, American Mild Ale. I’ve never had anything from Goose Island before and this wasn’t overly strong but had a lot of flavor. Perfect to finish out the flight.

The MUSTACHE BURGER – Pat LaFrieda Beef* Patty with Portabella Mushroom Cap & a Horseradish Cream Sauce (not bad at $10 but no fries) And yes, we got some parmesan fries! And bacon mac n cheese!

More Info: (for those of you familiar with the area, it’s in the Dos Lagos shopping center across from Dos Lagos Golf Course).

That is all for now. Make the trek to Corona or if you’re in the neighborhood stop in, get a flight, a good burg and enjoy!

Slater’s 50/50 Beer Tasting

Hey folks –

Unfortunately, due to the wonderful world of modern technology, my original post had been deleted by WordPress. So here goes off of memory from that evening. I want to say thanks to Erika from Slater’s 50/50 for having me out to the location in HB. I got to see my friend Christina who works for Duvel/Moortgat/Ommegang and she had filled me in on a few of the things being poured. The following will be in the order of beers tasted (and remembered!).

Stone Brewery –  Mixtape Ale-GK & LU’s Blend Vol. 1

Stone - Mixtape

This is a combination of 7 different varieties from Stone. Yes, 7 different beers including: Levitation, LeVariation (small batch of Stone Levitation Ale that was fermented with a Belgian yeast strain), Sublimely Self-Righteous, Smoked Porter, Cali-Belgique, 2011 Imperial Russian Stout, and 2011 Belgo-Anise Imperial Russian Stout with a dash of sage, hot peppers, lemon thyme.  This was quite tasty indeed! What a way to start of the evening!

Ommegang – Rare VOS

Ommegang - Rare Vos

Christina explained this beer to before but I had yet to try it.  It is a bold yet light brew that is not to hoppy or spicy and comes in at 6.5%. ABV and can also be found at Total Wine and Spirits

Ballast Point – Sculipin Habanero

Ballast Point - Sculpin Habanero

Yeah, you read that right, Sculpin with Habanero peppers! This beer had quite a kick. Now I love Sculpin IPA on its own but when you add a kick it takes this wonderful beer to a whole new level. Now the guy from BP told me that this beer wouldn’t be bottled but this was a pic I found on the internet so you could see what it looks like. He said that it would only be available on draft if you are lucky enough to find it! So if you do, I highly recommend it!

Sorry for the short review, next time I will do a better job at saving notes and saving rough drafts!

Cheers and enjoy,

Stew

PS: Thanks again to Erika and the fine folks at Slater’s 50/50 in HB
